Staten Island, NY – ShopRite, in partnership with Chock full o’Nuts®, presented the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) with a $25,000 check at the ShopRite of Veterans Road on July 14. The donation was made in celebration of the 75
th anniversary of Jackie Robinson becoming the first African American player in the modern era of Major League Baseball when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
The donation will support the JRF’s minority college scholarship program, online college success platform, and the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York City set to open later this summer. The JRF is a national non-profit organization founded in 1973 by Robinson’s wife, Rachel Robinson.

JRF Scholars receive financial aid over four years, while participating in a four-year, comprehensive program that includes career discernment strategies, job placement, international travel opportunities and practical life skills training. Since 1973, JRF has disbursed over $100 million in grants and direct support to 1,800 JRF Scholars.

Ayo Robinson, granddaughter of the legendary baseball player, was on hand to accept the donation at ShopRite on Thursday. She spoke about her grandfather's legacy and the importance of importance of making choices to impact lives in positive ways.
“This generous donation from ShopRite and Chock full o’Nuts® helps us to provide college scholarships as well as the exposure, mentorship, and other resources that young leaders deserve,” added Della Britton, president and CEO, Jackie Robinson Foundation. “It also supports our mission to highlight the legacy of Jackie Robinson, a true American hero, and the values he embodied.”
Upon retiring from baseball, Robinson made history again when William Black, founder of Chock full o’Nuts®, tapped him to become an executive at the New York-based coffee company. To mark the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s Major League Baseball career, Chock full o’Nuts® also launched limited-edition Jackie Robinson Chock full o’Nuts® coffee cans in stores and online, including at ShopRite stores, with a portion of the proceeds from each purchase being donated to the JRF.
