Keasbey, NJ -- (April 2016)
ShopRite's company-wide team of in-store retail dietitians spent March celebrating National Nutrition Month with a host of exciting events designed to engage shoppers and raise public awareness about the importance of making informed food choices.
In honor of the month-long celebration, each dietitian created activities designed to engage, educate and inspire ShopRite customers. While some dietitians conducted festivals or held cooking classes and in-store demos, others ventured out into the community to speak to groups such as seniors and children about the importance of good nutrition and the critical role it plays in all of our lives.
In addition, many dietitians worked with local civic leaders such as mayors and county executives to "officially" proclaim the 31-day period "National Nutrition Month" within their region. In many cases, the proclamations where officially presented to the dietitians during town hall meetings or at in-store events that were attended by local luminaries, store owners, and community leaders.
"I'm extremely proud of the way our entire team worked together to create all of these amazing and creative events," says Natalie Menza, manager of Wakefern's Health and Wellness department. "We're honored to be part of the communities we serve and look forward continuing to inspire our customers with impactful events such as these in the future."
Andrea Reina, RDN at the ShopRite of Passic/Clifton, right, held a kid-friendly "Savor The Flavor" demo featuring pancakes made with whole wheat buttermilk pancake mix and apple sauce.
National Nutrition Month is a month-long awareness campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This year’s theme was “Savor The Flavor of Eating Right.”
