ShopRite associates competed for the title of “Best Bagger” during a friendly contest at the ShopRite of West Berlin.
Associates representing ShopRite stores from 23 different member companies competed on speed, technique, style and attitude as part of the Best Bagger Contest. Competitors were given a combination of jars, cans, boxes and other groceries as they raced against the clock to bag items in reusable ShopRite bags. The family-owned Zallie Supermarkets hosted this year’s event at their ShopRite of West Berlin.
Winners included Cody Berkefeld, ShopRite of Byram, first place; Shane Bennington, ShopRite of Morrell Plaza in Philadelphia, second place, and Justin Vera, ShopRite of West Deptford.
The winner of the ShopRite Best Bagger contest will compete in the National Grocers Association’s Annual National Best Bagger Championship in San Diego, CA in February 2019. First held in 1987 in Dallas, TX, the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship features retailers with company pride and an enthusiastic commitment to customer service, and highlights the fact that bagging groceries has been an important step for many supermarket employees who have pursued long and rewarding careers in the grocery industry.
