Keasbey, NJ – (Nov. 10, 2020) –
On behalf of its vendor partners,
ShopRite of Hunterdon County recently presented a check for $25,000 to Norwescap Food Bank, which provides two million pounds of food each year to local food pantries, shelters, and childcare and senior centers in Northwest New Jersey. The private, non-profit organization also provides vital services in the area of education, financial literacy, health, housing and employment for families and individuals in need.
Joe Colalillo, president of ShopRite of Hunterdon County, which operates five ShopRite stores, made the donation at the Norwescap Food Bank in Phillipsburg, NJ. The money was raised in partnership with vendors that each September help sponsor ShopRite of Hunterdon County’s annual 5K Race for Hunger in Flemington. While the annual fund-raising race was postponed this year due to the COVID-19 health emergency, ShopRite and its industry partners, including beverage and bread suppliers and service agents, pushed ahead with donations to Norwescap.
“Norwescap and ShopRite have a shared mission to strengthen the communities we serve and help those impacted by food insecurity,” said Colalillo, who presented the check along with his wife, Jeannie Colalillo. “Even though we couldn’t host our Race for Hunger this year, we knew it was more important than ever to support Norwescap. We are so thankful to our race sponsors and members of the food industry who stepped up to donate money to Norwescap and help our neighbors in need. We look forward to returning with our 5K Race for Hunger next year to mark our 25th
anniversary of the event.”
“ShopRite is a model corporate citizen and has been an unbelievable partner with Norwescap in our efforts to fight the scourge of hunger in our communities.” said Mark Valli, chief executive officer of Norwescap. “This donation will go to directly to the efforts of Norewscap’s Food Bank to meet the basic needs of individuals and families struggling to put food on the table in this difficult time. ”
