ShopRite and Kellogg Company Partner To Fuel the Bodies and Minds of Students in Northwestern New Jersey

October 19, 2022

With the school year well under way and the holiday season coming up, ShopRite is teaming up with Kellogg Company to support families and students facing hunger in northwestern New Jersey. The companies are donating $5,000 each to Phillipsburg, N.J.-based food bank Norwescap, for a total of $10,000. In addition, Kellogg is donating a semi-truck load of its iconic foods.
“There’s nothing more important to us than working together to end hunger in our communities and support neighbors in need. We are honored to be joined today by representatives from Kellogg and Norwescap as we team up to do just that,” said Joseph Colalillo, president of ShopRite of Hunterdon County and the owner and operator of the ShopRite of Greenwich.
According to Feeding America, more than 38 million people in the United States—including 12 million children—are food insecure. In New Jersey, 1 in 11 children face hunger.
ShopRite, which supports Norwescap and many other organizations that are on the front lines of fighting hunger, is also partnering with Kellogg to donate 1,000 books to Norwescap. The books are part of Kellogg’s Feeding Reading program, which promotes literacy among students with the goal of building reading confidence and empowering young imaginations.
“We’re proud to partner with ShopRite to help kids in New Jersey reach their potential and make life a bit easier for families in need,” said Greg Carbone, Vice President, Sales Accounts – Grocery East, Kellogg Company. “Fueling the body and mind is a key element of Kellogg’s Better Days Promise to advance sustainable and equitable access to food. Kellogg shares ShopRite’s commitment to feed and fulfill those in need and positively impact our communities.”
More than 30,000 people with low to moderate income in Hunterdon, Warren, Morris, Somerset and Sussex counties benefit from Norwescap’s services each year. Their programs address immediate needs and build strategies for long term success, focusing on areas such as education, employment, health and nutrition and housing and community development. “Between our Food Bank, WIC program, and other health & nutrition services, and our Head Start/Early Head Start and other family-focused programs, Norwescap is committed to nourishing children’s bodies and minds every day,” said Mark Valli, CEO of Norwescap. “We are deeply grateful to Kellogg and ShopRite for this incredible donation that will benefit more than a thousand children and their parents/caregivers in multiple ways.”
