ShopRite Hosts Boy Scouts

June 10, 2016
Prepared. For Life.

That’s the Boy Scouts motto and it makes a lot of sense to Wakefern Food Corp. President and Chief Operating Officer Joe Sheridan, who told Boy Scouts from Troop 4 in Elizabeth, NJ that preparing with a foundation of strong values is key to success later in life.

Sheridan, who grew up in Elizabeth and attended Boy Scouts there, met with the scouts Thursday, June 9, at the new ShopRite of Newark.

“The things that anchor you  -- your inner voice – are based on your values,” Sheridan told the boys. “Honesty, integrity and being a good person -- these are all things that are important to the Boy Scouts and in business.”

Later this month, Sheridan will receive the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America Patriots’ Path Council, which includes nearly 20,000 Boy Scouts in northern and central New Jersey.

Sheridan made a $25,000 donation on Thursday to the Patriots’ Path Council  -- part of a larger $1.5 million donation ShopRite bestowed on 40 different community groups during the ShopRite LPGA Classic last week in Galloway, NJ.

“Like the Boy Scouts, ShopRite believes in giving back to the community and paying it forward,” he added.

Neil Greenstein, whose family owns and operates the ShopRite of Newark, was also on hand Thursday to talk to scouts. The Star-Ledger recently called Greenstein’s ShopRite “game-changing” for the city of Newark.

“We operate kind of like a Scout den, with different members and owners all working together and cooperating to be successful,” Greenstein said of Wakefern Food Corp. and its member ShopRite stores. “We also believe that if you do what’s right for your associates and your customers, you will do what’s right for your business.”
