ShopRite Visits Area Food Banks as part of 60 Ton Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Donation

Keasbey, NJ (Nov. 13, 2015) –Fighting hunger in the community is at the very heart of ShopRite’s charitable giving and Thanksgiving is an important time of year for our ShopRite stores and ShopRite Partners In Caring.
                                                                                               
ShopRite wants to make sure that all families have an opportunity to sit down to a Thanksgiving meal and our stores are thankful for the chance to help distribute turkeys and holiday meal fixings this year.   This holiday season ShopRite is donating 60 Tons of turkeys to food banks across six states, bringing to One Million the total number of pounds of frozen turkey ShopRite has donated since 1999.
 
And our turkey donations are happening in a variety of unique was this November:
 
  • 2,000 frozen turkeys arrived at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey Nov. 12
  • 7,000 pounds of turkey will be delivered to Philabundance food bank in Philadelphia Nov. 18
  • 30,000 canned ShopRite vegetables and 200 turkeys will be delivered to the Food Bank for Westchester Nov. 17
  • ShopRite associates will join the World famous Harlem Globetrotters for a “Hoops for Hunger”  turkey donation event at the ShopRite of Richmond and Forest in Staten Island on Nov. 18
  
“We are so grateful to play a small part in helping those who need it most to celebrate this holiday season. With the help of our partners at the food banks, we are able to touch so many lives each year and it is our hope that these turkeys make the holidays a little brighter for our neighbors in need,”  said Christine Magyarits, spokeswoman for ShopRite Partners In Caring.
 
“This donation of 2,000 turkeys is the single biggest donation we will receive this year,” Tim Vogel, director of Food Sourcing for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, said of ShopRite’s donation. “It makes a significant impact on our ability to provide turkeys to the communities we serve.”
 
Food banks receiving turkey donations from ShopRite Partners In Caring include: Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside, NJ; Mercer Street Friends in Ewing, NJ; NORWESCAP in Phillipsburg, NJ; Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties in Neptune, NJ;  Community Food Bank (Southern Branch) in Egg Harbor, NJ; Food Bank of South Jersey in Pennsauken, NJ; Foodshare in Bloomfield, CT; Connecticut Food Bank in East Haven, CT; Food Bank of Hudson Valley in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY; Long Island Cares in Hauppauge, NY; Food Bank for Westchester in Millwood, NY; Food Bank for NYC in Bronx, NY; Food Bank of Northeastern NY in Latham, NY; Philabundance in Philadelphia, PA; Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley in Allentown, PA; H&J Weinberg NEPA in Wilkes Barre, PA, Maryland Food Bank in Baltimore, MD, and the Food Bank of Delaware in Newark, DE.
