ShopRite set to open largest capital region store yet

Colonie, NY, April 1, 2013 – In less than one week, ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. will officially unveil its largest store yet in the Capital Region – an ultra modern 70,000-square-foot location at 1730 Central Avenue, in Colonie, featuring a fresh bake shop, fresh prepared foods and salad bars, a full-service floral department, a pharmacy, ready for pick-up grocery service and an on-site registered dietitian to assist shoppers in choosing healthy products.

The new store will feature the latest energy-saving technologies in refrigeration as well as environmentally-friendly LED and T-8 lighting systems.

The doors of the new ShopRite of Colonie will officially open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013, with a ribbon cutting ceremony with local elected officials and community leaders scheduled for 9 a.m. that morning. Among those expected to attend the ribbon cutting are Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy, Colonie Town Supervisor Paula Mahan and Village of Colonie Mayor Frank Leak.

In addition to a broad array of groceries, fresh produce and locally sourced products, the store will have offer a broad selection of international foods, natural and organic products in every department, a Gourmet Coffee Bar, a Mediterranean Olive bar and a selection of Japanese and Chinese specialties for dining in or taking out including freshly made sushi.

ShopRite of Colonie will also offer the company’s popular “ShopRite from Home,” service which allows customers to choose their items using their computers or mobile devices and have their orders ready for pick-up at the store. Another unique feature of the ShopRite of Colonie will be a Wi-Fi lounge, where shoppers can have lunch or enjoy a cup of coffee while browsing the Internet on their personal devices.

Like ShopRite locations previously opened in Niskayuna, Albany and Slingerlands, the Colonie store will be owned and operated by ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. (SRS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Wakefern Food Corp., the largest supermarket cooperative in the United States. SRS also operates 28 other ShopRite stores in New York.
