ShopRite and Sunshine Foundation Grant Child's Wish

Mark, 12, of Villas, NJ, got a big surprise Jan. 23 at the ShopRite of Rio Grande. That’s where Mark and his family learned that they will be headed to Walt Disney World and the Sunshine Foundation's Dream Village. Mark, who was diagnosed with autism, will fulfill his dream trip thanks to a grant from funds raised during the 2016 ShopRite LPGA Classic.

“We hope this dream trip to Disney gives Mark and his family even more hope and strength, and we are honored to help provide a priceless experience that Mark will remember for a lifetime,” said Nicholas Sumas, vice president of Village Super Market, Inc., owner and operator of the ShopRite of Rio Grande.

The family was treated to a special Walt Disney World theme cake, balloons and visits from Sunshine Foundation staff.

Kate Sample, president of the Sunshine Foundation, and Carmen D’Angelo, a volunteer with the Cape Atlantic Chapter Member of the Sunshine Foundation, were also at the store Monday.  The purpose of the Sunshine Foundation, the nation’s original wish granting organization, is to answer the dreams of chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children whose families cannot fulfill those requests due to financial strain the child’s illness may cause.

ShopRite, a longtime supporter of key community efforts, donated a portion of proceeds from the 2016 ShopRite LPGA Classic, to hunger, health and educated-related charitable organizations in communities its stores serve. As title sponsor of the annual ShopRite LPGA Classic for 25 years, ShopRite has donated more than $30 million through its association with the LPGA.
