PTM CONTINUES 5TH BIRTHDAY FESTIVITIES WITH RENEWED SHOPRITE SUPERMARKET RIBBON CUTTING

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Museum visitors will join ShopRite Partners In Caring spokesperson Orien Reid and Please Touch Museum (PTM) ® staff to unveil new interactive, educational features in PTM’s popular ShopRite Supermarket exhibit. 
 
“Our ShopRite Supermarket was originally created to encourage social skill development and foster play based learning,” says Lynn McMaster, Interim President and CEO of Please Touch Museum. “Today’s young visitors will have more opportunities to explore and practice pre-literacy and math concepts or identifying colors and shapes all while demonstrating choice and responsibility.”
 
On January 5, 2014 at 2p.m., PTM puppet pal Marvin the Supermarket Manager and a 5th birthday party raffle winner will help cut the ribbon on the beloved miniature grocery store. The “Littlest ShopRite,” as it’s known, with its sparkling new checkout lanes and shopping baskets, now features shopping lists to help children plan menus and quick response (QR) codes with detailed nutritional information for parents. Racks with kid friendly items such as magazines and flowers round out the exhibit.
 
“For decades, children from across the country have enjoyed this amazing museum,” says Reid.  “We are thrilled to be able to enhance this beloved area and to expand the opportunities for children to reap the educational benefits of this terrific space.”
 
For 37 years, Please Touch Museum has served this community and enriched the lives of children from across the globe by creating learning opportunities through play.  In November, the Museum celebrated five amazing years at its current Memorial Hall location.  To commemorate the occasion, PTM is hosting special events and appearances on the 5th of each month to provide unique experiences for its visitors. 
 
As part of the Museum’s season of 5th Birthday Celebrations, guests will receive discounted Museum admission and will be treated to mini cupcakes, faux cake decorating in the Program Room, special story times about family, food and going to the grocery store and a special End of the Day Birthday Dance Party featuring ShopRite’s legendary Can Can Dancers.  From January 5th through January 18th, visitors may also participate in a canned food drive at the Museum to benefit Philabundance.

Please Touch Museum is dedicated to enriching the lives of children by creating learning opportunities through play. PTM features six interactive exhibit zones: Roadside Attractions, Flight Fantasy, City Capers, Wonderland, River Adventures, and Centennial Exploration, along with daily activities and theater performances.
