ShopRite Honored for its Long-Time Role in Supporting FBSJ’s Mission
Pennsauken, NJ (PR.com) – November 3, 2016 –
The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) announced today that it has named ShopRite the 2016 Champion Against Hunger Award recipient.
The award will be presented to the owners of ShopRite stores at FBSJ’s annual gala, Viva South Jersey, to be held November 10 at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill, NJ.
“This award is long overdue,” stated FBSJ President and CEO Val Traore, who has directed the non-profit organization since 2006. “ShopRite has been a steadfast and generous supporter of not only the Food Bank of South Jersey but also the network of 250 food pantries we support for almost 20 years.”
ShopRite’s support for FBSJ and its network of pantries began in 1999. The scope of their philanthropy includes millions of pounds in food donations; millions of dollars in financial donations received from their ShopRite Partners In Caring program, their Check Out Hunger campaigns, the ShopRite Classic LPGA golf tournament, food bank event sponsorships, as well as corporate volunteerism. ShopRite’s support has helped launch and sustain critically-needed direct programs like FBSJ’s mobile food pantry, groceries for seniors, and children’s programs like Summer Meals.
“As a food retailer, the core focus of our charitable giving is fighting hunger in communities served by ShopRite stores”, stated Christine Magyarits, Community Relations Manager for ShopRite. “The Ammons, Bottino, Brown, Eickhoff, Ravitz and Zallie families, who own and operate ShopRite stores in this region, are honored to receive this recognition. They proudly share the award with all of their ShopRite associates who so willingly engage in community service and are true champions in the fight against hunger.”
“Through the loyal support of ShopRite, we are able to reach more than 190,000 food-insecure children, seniors and individuals in South Jersey each year,” stated Traore. “Their continuous help guarantees that nearly one million meals reach thousands of families in need throughout our region.”
In 2015, FBSJ distributed nearly 10 million pounds of food to more than 190,000 food-insecure residents in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties. Proceeds from this year’s Viva South Jersey Gala will help fund FBSJ children’s programs.
