SHOPRITE ASSOCIATES PROVIDE HOPE FOR THE HUNGRY, RAISE $1.27 MILLION

ShopRite associates across six states banded together last September in a friendly competition sponsored by ShopRite and General Mills – the annual ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest. The theme of this year’s contest was “Providing Hope to the Hungry” and in this spirit, ShopRite associates collected donations at check-out and held various events, raising $1.27 million to support regional food banks in communities served by ShopRite stores.

ShopRite of Flemington Introduces New Diabetes Center

Earlier this month, ShopRite of Flemington held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its brand new, in-store Diabetes Center. Led by ShopRite’s Wellness team, which includes retail dietitian Susan Lang-Saponara, RD and store pharmacists, the Diabetes Center is a one stop shop for customers looking to manage and monitor their diabetes diagnosis.

To help customers live healthier lifestyles, ShopRite of Bay Shore, NY will now provide the free services of an in-store dietitian.  Susan Buonadonna, President of Buonadonna Shoprite LLC, a family business that owns and operates the ShopRite of Bay Shore, announced today that Angela McKelvey, Registered Dietitian, has joined the organization.

ShopRite Offers Healthy Store Tours as Part of American Diabetes Association Alert Day

Tuesday, March 24, 2015, is the annual American Diabetes Association Alert Day, an opportunity to ask the American public to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. As part of the Association’s Alert Day promotion, and to encourage everyone to live a healthy and active lifestyle, ShopRite is offering store tours with their in-house registered dietitians at three New Jersey locations. The tours will take place at 6 p.m. on March 24 at the Hillsborough, Bernardsville and Greater Morristown ShopRite locations.

ShopRite Joins GreenBlue’s How2Recycle Label Program

With more than 250 stores across the Northeast, ShopRite will now feature the How2Recycle Label on both paper and plastic carry-out bags at all stores. The How2Recycle Label, a program of GreenBlue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), now includes over thirty member companies and is growing rapidly as companies seek an easy, clear, and transparent way to communicate recyclability to their consumers.

During Lent, the weeks preceding Easter, my family does not eat meat on Friday.  As a young person and then as a newlywed, this was the opportunity to indulge in steamed shrimp, crab cakes, or coddies (codfish cakes, a local favorite, eaten with mustard and Saltine crackers).
